I
was commissioned by the Anastasopoulos Family to create a
memorial for their son Tony who was killed on the railroad
tracks at the age of Seventeen. I decided to use a dilapidated
bench, located next to Montclair High School, as an armature
in which to tell Tony’s story, celebrate his life,
and remind the kids as to how dangerous the tracks can be.
I built over the existing bench with Styrofoam and cement
using the Polyadam Cement system. Each surface of the bench
is embedded with his words, his story, and how he was killed.
On the side is a plaque with a poem his brother Jason wrote
for him, as well as baby brother Sasha’s tiny footprints. |
